Recovery Days Aren't Laziness

If you're listening to this after a day where you did nothing — or what felt like nothing — I want you to know something important.

That wasn't laziness... That was recovery.

Your brain works differently. It burns through fuel faster. It fights harder to focus, to start, to finish. And sometimes, after all that fighting... it just needs to stop.

That's not a character flaw... That's biology.

Here's what I've learned: Recovery days don't happen because you're weak. They happen because you pushed hard — maybe harder than you even realized. Your brain hit a wall, and now it needs time to rebuild.

The problem is, the world doesn't see it that way. It sees you scrolling your phone. It sees you staring at the ceiling. It sees "unproductive."

And maybe you've internalized that too. Maybe you spent your recovery day feeling guilty about recovering.

But think about it this way: If you ran a marathon, no one would shame you for resting the next day. Your legs would be sore. Your body would need time. Everyone would understand.

Your brain just ran its own kind of marathon. The fact that it happened invisibly... doesn't make it less real.

So here's what I want you to try: The next time you have a day where you can't seem to do anything, instead of fighting it, instead of spiraling into guilt... just notice it.

Say to yourself: "This is a recovery day. I need this."

You don't have to earn rest by being productive first. You don't have to justify it to anyone. You just have to let it happen.

And tomorrow, or the day after, when your brain is ready again... you'll know. You'll feel it. The fog will lift, even if just a little. And you'll move forward.

But today, if you need to rest... rest.

You're not broken. You're not lazy. You're just human — with a brain that works a little differently.

And that's okay.

I'll be here again tomorrow, same time, same place. Until then — be gentle with yourself. You're doing better than you think.

This is ADHD FM. I'm always here when you need me.
