The Body Keeps Score

Your brain gets all the attention.

ADHD is framed as a brain thing. A focus thing. A mental thing.

But your body is part of this too. And it's probably trying to tell you something right now.

Are your shoulders tense? Is your jaw clenched? Are you holding your breath without realizing it? Is there a restlessness in your legs, an urge to move that you've been suppressing?

ADHD isn't just in your head. It's in your whole nervous system.

The hyperactivity. The restlessness. The sensory sensitivities. The way your body reacts to stress, to boredom, to overwhelm. It's all connected.

And most of us spend our days ignoring these signals. We sit still when we need to move. We push through when we need to rest. We caffeinate when we need sleep. We override what our body is telling us because we have things to do.

But the body keeps score. It remembers the tension you didn't release. The rest you didn't take. The movement you denied it. And eventually, it demands payment.

That's when you crash. When you get sick. When your brain just stops cooperating entirely.

So here's a radical idea: check in with your body right now.

Not to fix anything. Just to notice.

Scan from your head down. What do you feel? Tension? Fatigue? Energy? Numbness? Where is it? What's it telling you?

If you're tired, maybe you need rest — not coffee. If you're restless, maybe you need movement — not more sitting. If you're tense, maybe you need a break — not another task.

Your body knows things your brain is too busy to notice.

This isn't about being perfect at self-care. It's about occasionally pausing to listen. To notice. To respond.

Your body is your partner in this, not your enemy. It's not failing you. It's communicating with you.

Start listening.

This is ADHD FM. Your body has wisdom. Pay attention to it.
